Wuthering Waves surpasses $100 million in revenue in less than two months after launch
Kuro Games' action RPG Wuthering Waves has exceeded $100 million in mobile revenue on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store, according to estimates from AppMagic. This milestone was reached in under two months since the game’s official launch on May 22, 2024, with a balanced revenue distribution across its major regions.
Japan has been the top contributor, accounting for 23% of its mobile earnings. Close behind, players in China have contributed 22%, while South Korean and US players each account for 17%.
A Strong Start
Kuro Games’ new monster-collecting IP debuted strongly in May, becoming the second most-downloaded game of the month in the US and Japan, surpassed only by Supercell’s Squad Busters. AppMagic data indicates that 7.4 million mobile downloads of Wuthering Waves occurred between May 22 and May 31, making up the bulk of its estimated 11.5 million downloads on the App Store and Play Store to date. Among these, 23% came from China, 14% from the US, and 7% from Japan.
Revenue Insights
On the revenue front, Wuthering Waves was June’s third-biggest gacha title, trailing only behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. According to AppMagic, the game generated $59.9 million in June alone, with significant daily revenue spikes linked to new gacha banners. A notable surge on June 6 saw the game earn $5.5 million in a single day, coinciding with the release of a new gacha banner featuring Yinlin. Another spike occurred on June 28 with the Version 1.1 update and a new gacha banner featuring Jinhsi, pushing daily revenue to $4.4 million, more than triple the $1.2 million earned the previous day.
While revenue has declined since then, another new banner is expected to launch following the end of Jinhsi’s on July 22. Source: adapted from an article by Aaron Astle, News Editor for PocketGamer.biz.
