Toon Blast Exceeds $2.5 Billion in Revenue Amidst Renewed Growth and Record Earnings
Peak Games' mobile hit, Toon Blast, is experiencing a resurgence in revenue, reaching monthly earnings levels not seen since the mid-pandemic boom of 2021.
In the first half of 2021, Toon Blast generated $223.4 million, according to AppMagic data. This figure dropped to $188.3 million in 2022 and declined further to $135 million in the first half of 2023. However, the game has rebounded significantly in 2024, earning $212.7 million in the first six months.
The Journey to $2.6 Billion
Released in 2017, Toon Blast quickly became a success for Peak Games, earning $200 million in its first year and helping the developer reach $1 billion in total portfolio revenue by August 2019. Peak Games was acquired by Zynga in 2020, shortly before Toon Blast itself surpassed $1 billion in earnings.
Since then, Toon Blast's revenue has more than doubled to $2.6 billion, with the bulk of this sum coming from players in the US and Japan. US users have spent $1.5 billion, while Japanese players have contributed $494 million. The third-largest contributor, Canada, has spent $78 million.
The US and Japan also make up the largest audiences for Toon Blast, with 31% of downloads from the US and 11% from Japan. Brazil ranks third for downloads, while Canada does not make the top 10.
Back on Track
Achieving $2.6 billion in lifetime revenue is impressive, and so is Toon Blast's recent recovery after a 20-month decline.
"Toon Blast gross bookings have almost doubled compared to a year ago, which is a great achievement by the whole team," said Omer Inonu, CEO of Peak Games, in an interview with PocketGamer.biz. "Some features have contributed more than others, but the main change we implemented was increasing the number of tests to improve the gameplay experience. Relentless focus on gameplay improvement was key to this achievement."
The turnaround began in October 2023, with revenue peaking at $37.6 million in January 2024. Since then, monthly revenue has stabilized at over $35 million, more than double the average monthly earnings of $16.6 million in 2023.
Notably, Toon Blast's renewed success coincides with the release of a series of 3D animations on the game's official YouTube channel. Source: adapted from an article by Aaron Astle, News Editor for PocketGamer.biz.
