The Google Play Store now permits downloading multiple apps simultaneously

Google has finally unveiled a highly anticipated feature on the Play Store, representing a significant milestone in user experience improvement. Initially discovered by 9to5Google, this feature arrives after years of testing and development, delivering a much-needed enhancement to Android users worldwide.

Previously, users were restricted to downloading one app at a time from the Play Store. Now, with the capability to download two apps simultaneously, the process of installing multiple apps becomes notably more efficient and streamlined. However, some users may find the current limit of two simultaneous downloads somewhat restrictive, particularly since earlier leaks hinted at the possibility of downloading up to five apps at once. It is hoped that Google will expand this limit in the future, allowing users to tailor the number of simultaneous downloads according to their preferences.

As of now, this new multi-download functionality applies solely to fresh app installations and not to app updates. While the ability to download multiple apps simultaneously marks a positive step forward, many users would appreciate its extension to app updates, which are often more frequent than fresh installs. It is anticipated that Google may consider incorporating updates into this feature in future updates, as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the Play Store experience.

One area where this feature proves particularly advantageous is during the setup of a new Android device. With the ability to download two apps simultaneously, users can swiftly install their preferred apps and get their device operational in no time. This functionality significantly streamlines the setup process, saving users valuable time and effort.

Google has been actively working on implementing simultaneous app downloads since at least 2019, but widespread availability had been pending until now. Users can check if their device has access to this feature by attempting to download two or more large-sized apps or games simultaneously from the Play Store. Additionally, users may need to ensure that newly downloaded apps appear on the home screen, which can be adjusted on Pixel phones via Home settings > Add app icons to home screen.

In recent years, the Google Play Store has undergone numerous transformations, including the introduction of AI-generated FAQs for app listings. Furthermore, there are plans to utilize AI to offer users a quick summary of the features of each app or game.
