Sporty Group Acquires Sociable Soccer by Jon Hare
Sensible Soccer, a 1990s hit, revolutionized the sports gaming genre on platforms like the Commodore Amiga. Sociable Soccer, its modern successor, offers similar action-packed gameplay on PC, Mac, and mobile, with Xbox and PlayStation versions arriving later this year.
Sporty Group connects with millions of users daily across 10 countries and three continents through SportyBet, one of the world's most popular betting and gaming platforms. They also operate SportyTV, a free-to-air channel broadcasting live sports like the Premier League and UEFA EURO 2024 to Nigeria and Ghana, and Sporty.com, an app offering sports news, live scores, and social features.
This acquisition marks Sporty Group's first venture into video games. Jon Hare, who has developed 11 best-selling games, will continue to lead the development of Sociable Soccer under Sporty's support.
Hare stated, “Joining Sporty allows us to focus on creating hit games with the backing of a successful sports entertainment company. This partnership will help us build better games and reach a wider audience.”
Gregory Parsons, Sporty Group’s VP of Business Development, added, “Integrating a football video game into the Sporty ecosystem aligns with our growth strategy. We’re excited about our future plans for Sociable Soccer and view this acquisition as the start of a promising journey.” Source: adapted from an article by Daniel Griffiths, Editor for PocketGamer.biz.
