Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition launches on mobile this year, original nears $50M revenue

Studio Wildcard’s dinosaur hunter game, Ark: Survival Evolved, is set to release a new mobile version later this year, bundling all expansion packs into one comprehensive package just in time for the holiday season.

Named Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition, this definitive version includes the Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, and Genesis Parts 1 & 2 DLCs, adding new maps and eras to the game. This package has already been launched on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, and will be available on mobile by late 2024.

This follows a similar trajectory to the base version of Ark: Survival Evolved, which debuted on PC and console in 2017 before its mobile release in June 2018.

In the six years since its mobile launch, the action-adventure game has generated $48.3 million in gross revenue on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, according to AppMagic data.

The announcement of the Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition mobile port comes after three years of declining consumer spending on the mobile version of Survival Evolved. The game generated $3.6 million in 2023, down from $7 million in 2022 and $10.1 million in 2021. Its most profitable year was 2020, with $10.9 million earned from mobile gamers.

As of mid-2024, Survival Evolved has generated $1.4 million in revenue this year.

The US market has contributed the most revenue to the mobile game, accounting for 51% of its lifetime earnings, followed by Japan at 15% and South Korea at 4%.

AppMagic data shows that Survival Evolved has been downloaded 49.3 million times across the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with the US again leading with 19% of total downloads. Brazil and Thailand follow with 9% and 7% of total installs, respectively.

In the past 30 days, the game has seen approximately 889,000 downloads, with Brazil accounting for 25% of total installs. Vietnam and the US follow at 10% and 8%, respectively.
