According to IDC, Android is expected to experience significant growth in 2024
In the ever-evolving realm of the smartphone market, Android is positioned for significant growth in 2024, poised to surpass Apple's iOS by a notable margin. Despite the iPhone's strong presence in the United States, Apple has witnessed substantial expansion in the global market. However, Android, the reigning operating system worldwide, has experienced some erosion in its market share in recent times.
Insights from the IDC suggest that Android is projected to experience remarkable growth compared to iOS throughout 2024. According to Nabila Popal, IDC's research director, Android's growth trajectory is expected to be twice as rapid as that of iOS this year. Apple has already encountered a 10% decline in sales in the first quarter of 2024, relinquishing the top position to Samsung, particularly due to dwindling sales in the Chinese market. The resurgence of Samsung to the forefront marks a noteworthy development in the smartphone industry, with Android's momentum underscored by Popal's statement regarding its ascent.
Meanwhile, Apple faces scrutiny in the United States as the Department of Justice (DOJ) pursues a lawsuit alleging monopolistic practices associated with the iPhone. The lawsuit targets Apple's perceived anticompetitive conduct regarding messaging platforms and the App Store, among other areas. These legal challenges add complexity to Apple's competitive landscape, potentially impacting its market dynamics in the years ahead.
